School Environmental Management Policy (SEMP)
The Centre’s Environmental Management Policy (EMP) highlights the importance that the Centre places on identifying and managing the impacts that the Centre’s activities may have on the environment.
The environmental programs and procedures have been based on the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and associated legislation. In addition, the Centre has liaised with stakeholders to ensure that relevant environmental issues have been identified and addressed.

Environmental WATER MANAGEMENT Program
1. Scope
The Water Management Program incorporates all the water used throughout the Boyne Island EEC in the following ways:
  • Stormwater;
  • Irrigation water;
  • Water Outfalls;
  • Wastewater; and
  • Potable water.

SEMP Noise PDF Print E-mail
Environmental NOISE Program
1. Scope
The Environmental Noise Program is limited to the following noise sources:
  • Machinery owned by the Centre;
  • Activities (teaching, research, social) under the control of the Centre or authorised by Education Queensland at the Centre; and
  • To educate Centre stakeholders on environmental noise issues.
This program excludes the following:
  • Any activity or event covered by special agreement or licence from the administering authority;
  • Noise within the Boyne Island EEC which is regulated by the Workplace Health and Safety Act (1995);
  • Traffic (excluding Centre and contractor vehicles and plant during operations that are non-transitional) noise;
  • Behavioural noise;
  • Noise from animals other than those kept at the Research Centre for research/educational purposes; and
  • Emergency warning systems.

Environmental AIR QUALITY Program
1. Scope
The Air Quality Program covers the air emissions throughout the Centre, including:
  • Emissions
  • CFC Management for cooling systems; and
  • Emissions of an odorous nature.
This program excludes the following:
  • Indoor air quality;
  • Emissions from vehicles; and
  • Air quality issues covered under the Workplace Health and Safety Act (1995).
